After a rough performance in Rio, Arnel Pineda asks fans: Should I STAY or GO?

Alright, you’ve seen me at my best and my worst. So let’s settle this once and for all. Text GO if you want me gone. STAY if you’re with me."

After a rocky performance at Rock in Rio 2024, Arnel Pineda did something most frontmen wouldn’t dare—he turned to his fans and asked the big question: Should I STAY or GO? In a bold social media post, Arnel laid it all on the line, asking fans to decide his future with Journey after what was undeniably a tough night on stage. But before we dive into the fan reaction, let’s break down what actually happened during the performance and why it matters.

A Night of Highs and Lows

Arnel’s performance was a masterclass in the unpredictability of live music. From the start, things weren’t going his way. The in-ear monitors—those essential little earpieces that let singers hear themselves and stay on pitch—decided to take the night off, leaving him essentially flying blind. For those who don’t know, that’s like a chef cooking without tasting the food. Not ideal.

Then, there was the Rio humidity. Let’s be real—singing in that kind of thick, tropical air is like trying to run a marathon through molasses. Every note is a struggle. And when you’re fronting one of the most legendary rock bands of all time, the expectations are sky-high, and that weight can crush even the most seasoned performers.

Facing the Mental Toll

Arnel was feeling the heat, both literally and metaphorically. He later admitted on social media that the night hit him hard, writing: “No one more than me in this world feels so devastated about this… and of all the places, it’s in Rock In Rio.” You could sense the frustration and disappointment—this wasn’t just another gig. This was Rock in Rio, one of the biggest stages in the world, and it wasn’t his best night.

And here’s where the mental toll of performing comes in. The pressure to nail it can create a vicious cycle: one small mistake spirals into another, and suddenly, the night’s unraveling before your eyes. The weight of living up to Journey’s massive legacy seemed to be bearing down on him, and the night just wasn’t playing nice.

Here's a video of his performance:

A Bold Move: The STAY or GO Dilemma

But Arnel didn’t shy away from the aftermath. Instead, he took a risk and put the power in the hands of the fans. In a raw and vulnerable Facebook post, he threw down the challenge: “I am offering you a chance now (especially those who’ve hated me and never liked me from the very beginning) to simply text GO or STAY... and if GO reaches 1 million… I’m stepping out for good.”

It was a gutsy move, one that showed just how much Arnel cares about what the fans think. He wasn’t asking this lightly either, admitting: “I took the risk of asking the fans something that I know only a few could ever understand… the GO or the STAY.” This wasn’t just about one bad performance; this was about his entire journey with the band and whether or not the fans were still behind him.

Fans to the Rescue

The reaction? Overwhelming support. Despite the tough night, Journey fans flooded his social media with messages of encouragement, backing him up and reminding him that one bad show doesn’t erase all the incredible performances he’s delivered over the years. Fans know what Arnel has brought to the table since stepping into the spotlight with Journey, and they weren’t about to let one rough night define him.

That’s the beauty of live music. It’s raw, it’s human, and sometimes it’s messy. But it’s also a chance for connection, and in this case, the fans showed up for Arnel when he needed it most.

The Bigger Picture: Journey’s Legacy

In the end, Arnel’s reflection went deeper than just that one night in Rio. He acknowledged the bigger picture, saying: “One day, the band will just throw in the towels, but the LEGACY that the original members have created will live on forever.” He knows that Journey is bigger than any one person or performance, and he’s dedicated to honoring that legacy, even when things don’t go perfectly.

What stands out here is Arnel’s humility. He’s not delusional about his place in the band’s history. He knows the stakes, but he also knows that everyone stumbles now and then. What matters is how you get back up, and Arnel’s willingness to confront the tough moments head-on shows the kind of resilience that defines true artists.

Arnel’s Rock in Rio performance was far from perfect, but here’s the deal: that’s the nature of live music. It’s unpredictable, messy, and sometimes downright brutal. But through it all, Arnel showed us that he’s not backing down. He faced the critics, gave fans a voice in his journey, and came out the other side with his head held high (and maybe a little bruised). And really, that’s what makes a true performer—someone who’s willing to take the punches, own up to the mistakes, and keep going because the music, and the legacy, is bigger than one off night.

In the end, Arnel is still standing, still singing, and still ready to keep going—because, as we all know, the show must go on. And that’s something worth respecting.

Lyrics and Video of the Dyosa Theme Song: Himig ng Pag-ibig by Yeng Constantino

THE PRODUCTION design of ABS-CBN's newest fantaserye , DYOSA starring Anne Curtis is enticing. The musical score, theme song, and post-production are great. Kids at home really watch out for every episode of it. But what got my attention is the theme song, Himig ng Pag-ibig. originally sung by ASIN , and given a different interpretation by Yeng Constantino for the primetime series. So here is the video and lyrics of DYOSA's theme song: Himig ng Pag-ibig by Yeng Constantino Hoo hoo-hoo hoo-hoo Hoh hoh-hoo hoo-hoo Sa pagsapit ng dilim ako'y naghihintay pa rin Sa iyong maagang pagdating Pagkat ako'y nababalisa kung 'di ka kapiling Bawat sandali mahalaga sa atin.

Bea Alonzo is Betty La Fea

THE GORGEOUS Bea Alonzo transforms into an ugly but intelligent woman working in a fashion design comapany, Eco Moda, for yet another Pinoy remake of an international drama series, i ♥ Betty la fea (pronounced I Love Betty La Fea) on ABS-CBN. The new drama series is based on the Colombian drama series, Yo Soy Betty La Fea (I am Betty the Ugly), which was also franchised in the US with the TV drama Ugly Betty . What's good about this Pinoy version is that Bea really looks like Betty of the original drama series, which was shown here few years ago. I'm really wathcing out for this show. i ♥ Betty la fea is top-billed by big names in the Philippine showbiz industry. Here's the list of the show's cast from wikipedia: Bea Alonzo as Beatriz Pengson / Betty Piolo Pascual John Lloyd Cruz as Armando Solis Ruffa Gutierrez as Daniela Valencia [1] Vhong Navarro as Nicolas Mora [2] Ai Ai delas Alas as Julia Pengson Sam Concepcion as Andrew Pengson Ronaldo Valdez as Hermes

Hana Kimi to be shown on ABS-CBN and GMA-7

THE NETWORK war is on getting fiercer again. Proof? They are showing the same (same title, at least) TV series on March 24--the Taiwanese adaptation on ABS-CBN and the Japanese on GMA-7. I did a little research and found out that the story of these TV dramas are based on the manga series, Hanazakari no Kimitachi e or For You in Full Blossom. The plot is about a girl who enrolls in a school for boys just to get near her idol. A twist of events eventually revealed her identity to the school doctor. Many could associate this to the Koreanovela Coffee Prince on GMA-7. In fact, some ABS-CBN fanatics think that it is the network's answer to Coffee Prince , which had just ended. The million-dollar question is, which version is better, the Taiwanese of the Japanese version? A scene from the Taiwanese version (Wikipedia.com) Mukamo.com says that the Japanese version could be better because it's funny, but it also says that the Taiwanese version could also be attractive to fans beca
