Magpasikat 2024 opens with a tear-inducing performance from Vice Ganda, Karylle, Ryan Bang, featuring SB19

In celebration of It's Showtime's 15th anniversary, the much-anticipated Magpasikat segment returned with a bang. The opening act from the team of Vice Ganda, Karylle, and Ryan Bang did not disappoint, featuring none other than the biggest P-Pop group in the country, SB19. The group performed their hit "Liham" from the Pagtatag album, blending music and emotion to kickstart this year's celebration.

Vice Ganda’s team is known for delivering inspiring and heartwarming performances, and this year was no exception. Their showcase centered around stories of individuals clinging to hope, tied together by the phrase, "kumakapit ako sa pag-asa" (I am holding on to hope).

The performance highlighted the inspiring journey of SB19, the pioneering P-Pop group that overcame adversity and criticism in the music industry. It also touched on the story of Carlos Yulo, the double-gold medalist in the Paris 2024 Olympics, who shared his journey to success and his desire to inspire fellow dreamers.

Other featured stories included public figures like Awra Briguela, who is determined to make positive changes in his life, and Roy, a former gambler focusing on rebuilding his family. There was also a heartfelt moment from a daughter caring for her mother with Alzheimer's, and a couple who, after 12 years of waiting, still held on to the hope of having a child.

The most touching part, however, came from the children who spoke about their mother, an overseas worker. In an emotional twist, their mother surprised them by appearing on stage, leading to a heartwarming family reunion that moved both the audience and viewers at home to tears.

A comment on YouTube from @estellapresa summed it up perfectly:

In my own opinion, this was more than just a performance or collaboration for SB19; it was an opportunity to uplift, inspire, and remind others of the power of hope—something they themselves embody in their journey as artists who have faced countless challenges and yet continue to rise.

Vice Ganda later revealed that SB19 actively collaborated on the performance, contributing their input throughout the process. Vice Ganda shared that SB19 offered to rewrite the lyrics of Liham to better suit their performance, contributing these heartfelt lines:

"Ako'y magpapatuloy sa awiting 'to
Di hahayaan na mag-isa ka sa kahit na ano
Ako'y magpapatuloy sa awiting 'to
Dahil naniniwala akong buhay ang pag-asa ko
Hiling ko'y marining n'yo lang ang tinig ko
Maging sa hinaharap o nakaraan, ikaw lang at ako
Oh, aking mundo...."

In a testament to their humility and generosity, SB19 refused any payment for their participation, further endearing themselves to fans and proving that they are truly more than just performers—they are symbols of hope.

'Proud Pinoy Ako': Olivia Rodrigo Rocks Manila and Owns Her Filipino Heritage

Olivia Rodrigo is the cool cousin we all wish we had, and Manila made sure she felt the love. The Filipino-American superstar got the ultimate homecoming reception during the Philippine leg of her GUTS tour at the Philippine Arena, with 55,000 fans ready to claim her as their own. Nicknamed "Insan Liv" (translation: cousin Liv) by her Filipino fans, Rodrigo stepped onstage to the kind of welcome you’d give a long-lost relative—warm, loud, and a little bit chaotic. She didn’t disappoint, kicking off a concert that was part pop spectacle, part family reunion, and all heart. But this wasn’t just about the music. Rodrigo made it clear she was here for something bigger, too. All ticket proceeds, priced at P1,500 each, went directly to her Fund 4 Good initiative. This isn’t your typical celebrity charity—it’s Olivia’s way of using her platform to build a more equitable future for women and girls through education, reproductive rights, and the fight against gender-based violence.

Despite the technical mishaps that plagued the Billboard PH Anniversary event, one bright spot managed to steal the show—Sarah Geronimo’s electrifying performance. While other acts were battling sound glitches, Sarah G took command of the stage, delivering a set so powerful it earned her the rarest of concert reactions in the Philippines: a standing ovation.
